Fusion power plant by 2040?

Fusion power plant by 2040?

Rules

This market resolves YES if, at any point before January 1, 2040, a fusion power plant achieves all the following criteria simultaneously: (1) it produces a net electrical output of at least 100 MW delivered to an external grid, (2) it operates on a commercial basis, meaning it sells electricity to customers or a grid operator under standard commercial terms, and (3) it sustains this operation for a continuous period of at least 30 days. Government-funded demonstration plants that sell power commercially qualify. Research reactors, pilot facilities operating solely under experimental licenses, or plants that achieve 100 MW gross but fall below the threshold after accounting for parasitic plant loads do not qualify. Resolution will be determined by credible reporting from major energy agencies (e.g., IAEA, IEA) or official announcements from the plant operator confirmed by independent third parties.
