Learn how the prediction exchange works

Regulation

Understanding the regulatory landscape is important for anyone using prediction markets in Canada.

Regulatory Context

In September 2017, the Canadian Securities Administrators (CSA) implemented Multilateral Instrument 91-102, which banned the advertising, offering, selling, or trading of binary options shorter than 30 days with any individual in Canada.

This ban was enacted because binary options had become the leading type of investment fraud in Canada. Offshore platforms often conducted no actual trading. These platforms existed solely to steal money.

There are no registered individuals or companies authorized to sell binary options to individuals in Canada.

How This Applies to tpx

The Toronto Prediction Exchange is not a binary options trading platform. All contracts on this platform are denominated in T$ (T Dollars, also known as T-Bucks).

  • There is no way to deposit real money into this platform
  • T$ have no monetary value whatsoever
  • T$ cannot be purchased with real currency
  • T$ cannot be sold or exchanged for real currency
  • T$ have no real-world value of any kind

This platform is intended purely for entertainment and educational purposes regarding prediction markets at this time.

Our Vision

We hope to become the first licensed and regulated prediction exchange in Canada.
