This market resolves to “Yes” if the United States formally acquires sovereignty over any portion of Greenland—meaning that control of that territory legally transfers from the Kingdom of Denmark (or Greenlandic authorities) to the United States—at any point between January 1 and January 31, 2026 (inclusive). Acquisition must involve an internationally recognized change in territorial status, such as a treaty, purchase, cession, annexation, or other formal legal transfer that results in U.S. sovereignty over part of Greenland. Negotiations, frameworks, agreements in principle, proposals, tariffs, security arrangements, or discussions about future cooperation that do not result in an actual territorial transfer do not qualify. Press statements or intentions by U.S. officials are insufficient absent a legally recognized transfer of territory. The market resolves to “No” if no such territorial acquisition occurs by 23:59 EST (GMT-5) on January 31, 2026. Resolution will be based on official government declarations from the United States, Denmark, and Greenland and reporting from major international news organizations.
